International Awareness & Involvement

International Awareness & Involvement:
The Charlottesville Alumnae Chapter is committed to expanding international awareness and encouraging active engagement and education on global issues. The chapter provide assistance, relief, and vital resources to developing nations, while also promoting local advocacy against social injustices and offering support to those in need. This dedication to driving positive change and advancing cultural understanding is reflected in the chapter’s ongoing initiatives and the success of its past projects.
The Crimson Elephant Project:
The Crimson Elephant Project is part of the chapter’s ongoing commitment to combating Period Poverty, a global issue that affects individuals who lack access to affordable, safe, and hygienic menstrual products. Period Poverty not only impacts physical health but also contributes to social stigma, school absenteeism, and economic inequality.
August 2025, through the Crimson Elephant Project, the chapter assembled and distributed 200 purses filled with essential sanitary products to ensure that community members have the resources they need to manage their menstrual health with dignity. These purses were given to young women at Charlottesville High School and to the West Haven Care Clinic for free. This project reflects the chapter’s dedication to promoting health equity, breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation, and supporting those most in need through compassion, education, and advocacy.
