New Chair of the MJH Board of Trustees

Mildred Robinson was recently named the new Chair of the Martha Jefferson Hospital Board of Trustees.

Charlottesville has undergone some major transformations in the past eight decades. Schools have been desegregated. Neighborhoods have changed. The population has increased, as has traffic.

Josephine Lightfoot Whitsett, 84, has seen it all. Whitsett, who lives in the same house on Page Street in which she was born, worked as an educator in the city school system for nearly four decades and remains active in the community both through her public service sorority - Delta Sigma Theta - and her church - Ebenezer Baptist on Sixth Street.“I can’t even fathom the number of lives she has touched,” said Jacqueline Estes, who attended city schools and has taught at Charlottesville High School for 29 years. “She’s made a big impact across the city of Charlottesville on so many people, especially children.” (…Read the rest of the story)

Josephine Whitsett is a charter member of the Gamma Iota (Hampton University) and Charlottesville Alumnae chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.  She was also instrumental in the chartering of the Kappa Rho (UVA) chapter, and she remains an active Charlottesville Alumnae member.

Judge Eileen Olds Inaugurated as President of the American Judges Association

Judge Eileen Olds was inaugurated as the 46th President of the American Judges Association (AJA) on September 29, 2007 at the Annual Conference in Vancouver, BC.  This accomplishment makes her the first Virginian to serve as AJA’s president since the association’s inception in 1959 .  AJA is the largest independent association of judges in North America.

Judge Olds became the first female judge of the First Judicial District of Virginia in 1995 and still remains the only female jurist.  She currently presides as a Judge of the Chesapeaker Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.

Judge Eileen Olds was initiated in the Kappa Rho chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at the University of Virginia.
